“Predators” 2010 Big Review

When I was a young lad, I used to have a best friend that owned a comic book shop. After school and consuming mass amounts of sugar, we would ride our bikes to the shop to get lost in a plethora of colorful adventures. One of my favorites was “Predator” by DarkHorse Comics, the drawings were gory and out of this world. Before that I watched 1987s “Predator” over and over again until me and my friends could spit out lines from any scene in the movie like, “run to the helicopter” which had to be done in the most exaggerated Arnold voice ever. There was another young fan that followed the gargantuan reptilian, fish net wearing hunter, and he wrote a great script at a young age that is now known as “Predators”. Yes, that is right, Robert Rodriguez had a dream script ten years ago that is now up on the big screen and not so far away from DVD release in October.

Rising director Nimrod Antal takes us to another planet where nine people with unique backgrounds are hunted in a game preserve by none other than the blood thirsty, trophy driven, ugly mo*#!*r F^*#**s, known as the Predators. It is not often that a director becomes so popular that the studio he or she works for, lets them do any movie they want and the director just so happens to have a magical script up his sleeve that has been aging for a decade.

Adrien Brody takes the lead as, Royce, a former CIA spook turned mercenary. Royce looks out for number one, himself, but now he finds himself commanding a band of mixed nuts that include, a former Mafia Doctor (Topher Grace), a sniper (Alice Braga), sociopath rapist (Walter Goggins), a Russian elite soldier (Oleg Taktarov), a cartel member (Danny Trejo), an RUF death dealer (Mahershalahashbaz Ali), and Yakuza (Louis Ozawa Changchien). There is also an appearance by Mr. Lawrence Fishburne who I’ve been a fan of since “Apocalypse Now” 1979.

All this talent plus Robert Rodriguez and Nimrod Antal equals one heck of a ride through the “Predators” home field advantage and the crazy creatures that inhabit the planet. They even have hunting dog like aliens that the “Predators” use to help them get their prize trophies. I’m not giving away any action here. If you are an avid “Predator” fan and you have seen all the other movies, then you HAVE to see this one. I suggest seeing it on the big screen before it comes out on DVD in October. There is nothing like seeing a bunch of trained or bred killers being hunted down by the universe’s number one hunting enthusiasts. You know the ones I’m talking about, eight foot something, huge goalie like masks, dreadlocks, crazy cool weapons, fishnet stockings, invisible cloaking devices, scary snarling growls from the trees, and they won’t stop until they rip your skull from your body, that’s right, the “Predators” are coming to get you. Better run and hide! Or in Arnold’s words, “What are you waiting for, do it now!
