100 Years At The Movies Review

Written By: mike on September 6, 2010 No Comment

Entertaining, educational, and just the right length, 100 Years At The Movies is a great short film that showcases the art and history of the ever changing movie business.
From the beginning of the film your attention is captured by the almost ancient images and the mysterious music that greets you. You are then taken through the first moving pictures that were ever shown commercially. In the era of silent films we see slightly quicker than normal actions and overly animated actors that remind us of what the very beginning of visual entertainment was. Next we see the amazing phenomena of talking pictures; the new technology that would transform the film industry forever.
Clips of glamorous women with dark lips and suave men in suits with slicked back hair, fills the next few scenes. As the film continues, dancing begins to pop up here and there and the music becomes more vibrant. You will recognize scenes from movies such as “It Happened One Night” and “Robin Hood” about one third of the way through the film. “Robin Hood” is the first film clip shown in color.
100 Years At The Movies will bring back even more familiar memories as you see the faces of Gary Cooper and Jimmy Stewart and see familiar scenes from movies such as “Gone with the Wind” and “Casablanca”.
Then comes the era of some of the most popular musicals ever made. Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, and Judy Garland fill the screen with their warm smiles and graceful movements. Clips from “Singin’ in the Rain”, “Meet Me in St. Louis”, and “The Wizard of Oz” are all noted. As 100 Years At The Movies progresses, movies such as “It’s a Wonderful Life” will bring back fond family memories of the holiday season and the pure magic of good story telling.
Entering into a new film age which had similarities to the last, scenes from epic movies such as “Ben-Hur” and “The Ten Commandments” are showcased with amazing chariot races and the parting of massive waters. Household names will continue to speck the scenes through out 100 Years At The Movies, which in turn creates a more familiar and personal viewing experience. By this time, more and more ageless classics appear and you can’t help but smile at the thought of where the movie business was when it started out, and where it is now.
100 Years At The Movies sums up the many years and accomplishments of the film industry as well as gives a small peak into the many decades of outstanding performances which are the foundations of the success of the film industry today. There is much more in the film to see than what is described above but I don’t want to give it all away so you’ll just have to see it for yourself. What happens after “Ben-Hur” and “The Ten Commandments”? Go watch 100 Years At The Movies and find out. The rest is history.
