Did The Chicago Bears make A good Move?
The Bears pulled a questionable move in the sixth round by drafting Central Michigan quarterback Dan LeFevour. For years, the Bears have been looking for a solid quarterback, but why look towards the nfl Draft to find one instead of signing a veteran QB available through free agency? Questionable arm strength and throwing accuracy has Bears fans wondering if drafting LeFevour is a better move rather than addressing the teams immediate needs. The Bears need offensive linemen and defensive backs, not a rookie quarterback that has to learn and eventually run the complicated Mike Martz playbook.
Yet in still, all is not lost in drafting LeFevour. He’s a proven winner boasting a 36-15 record as a starting QB and he is pretty durable. LeFevour’s an athletic 6’3, 230 pound QB that can scramble pretty well (judging by the way the Bears O-line blocked for Jay Cutler last year, those scrambling skills are well needed). When it comes down to it, the Bears did hire Mike Martz for a reason. One of those reasons is the way he molds young QB’s to be future hall of famers via Kurt Warner. Obviously, Martz likes what he sees in LeFevour and believes he will be a solid QB in the nfl. In actuality, the Bears don’t need LeFevour to be a Tom Brady. They need him as insurance in case something happens to Cutler. The reports of LeFevour has been very positive, so if he shows the arm strength, accuracy and ability to learn Mike Martz’s offense, it’s easy to imagine him fitting in very well at Halas Hall.
Let’s hope he does because after last season’s interception fiasco with Cutler, Bears fans can’t really “bear down” like their hearts want them to. If Cutler and Hanie can’t get the job done, it will be LeFevour’s turn to bring “The Greatest Show On Turf” to the Windy City.
