In Iron Man 2, Robert Downy Jr; Review

In Iron Man 2, Robert Downy Jr. is back as the narcissistic Tony Stark. In this action packed film, Tony Stark’s character is more grandstanding and ostentatious which attracts the attention of new enemies Justin Hammer, played by Sam Rockwell, an old enemy of the stark family and Ivan Vanko, played Micki Rork, the rogue Russian physicist.. As the superhero theme is played out, Tony Stark’s character becomes the focus of the pubic and the US Government tries to persuade Iron Man to turn over his super power weapons, however, the superhero refuses claiming he privatizes world peace. As the plot thickens, he is assisted by his beautiful assistant Pepper Potts, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, and his new hire anti-heroine Natasha Romanoff, played by Scarlet Johansson. These two lovely vixens play out the duality of good and evil. Gwyneth’s character is more amplified in this sequel, and Scarlet’s character of the new assistant with ulterior motive. If you like comic books, her character resembles one of the comic book themes of Black Widow. The whole Marvel comic book theme is carried though out the movie.

Tony Stark does a fantastic job of personifying this eccentric playboy, charming and rich superhero but maybe a little overshadowed by two prominent villains. Sam Rockwell’s roll steals the scene with his egotistical mannerisms as his character who struggles to create a similar Ironman suite to forcibly take over Tony Stark’s Iron Man. As the villainous Justin Hammer unites with Ivan Vanko character, they co-create the super villain who is very intimidating with all the electrical cords waving from this hands at the showdown at the motor speedway battle scene were Tony Stark is first publicly defeated.

There over all movies is action packed with numerous battles and the typical comic book theme of good verse evil, however, the plot is very simple which leave the feeling of extreme predictability and no original thought. Basically you have a private defense contractor against another private defense contractor and the government and citizens are caught in the cross fire of these two egotistical struggle for power. This creates a lag in the plot that makes the movie less fulfilling to the adult viewer. The graphics are impressive for 2005, but let’s remember its 2010. There could have been a perhaps more futuristic technology added to the battle scenes.

Other interesting scene work is when the film Shoe Horns other subplots for up and coming movies! Brilliant, but frankly confusing for those who are not comic book buffs. They market movies such as Avengers, and Thor, however, this can leave the un-comic book mind wondering or feeling the awkwardness of these scenes. It a total set up promotions like when you are watching Entourage or 30 Rock and you see a Coke can flash across the screen an obnoxious amount of times.

The over all consensus is Iron Man 2 is a great action packed movie that is not over shadowed by its predecessor. Though it is not much of an original plot, it definitely satisfies the comic book fan of the typical good verses evil and the egotism that surrounds the characters. It reaches a broad audience, even if your not a comic book fan to catch all the smile and wink references placed through out…I recommend to see this movie, and feel free to follow some of the shoe horn advertisements and see the Advengers sub plotted by Nick Fury ….Happy movie watching
