Iron Man 2 A new Comic book Story line

Iron Man 2 has opened new possibilities of the comic book story lines. Most comic book movies try to stick with the plot lines of the long series of celebrated comics. Though, the first installation of the franchise stuck with the origin story and rightfully so, the second one kicked the door for endless possibilities for story and character development.

Like any summer blockbuster, you have to have, excellent action scenes (well choreographed), a great script, a cast that melds together seamlessly, and a plot filled with twist and turns. I can say Iron Man2 filled all those requirements. With the introduction of Whiplash (Mickey Rourke) one of Iron Man’s long list of foe, the movie is filled with questionable situations, putting you on the edge of your seat. There are moments when the nail biting scenes take a back seat to the love interest, Pepper Pots (Gwyneth Paltrow). What I like about the movie is that it stuck to the base of the comic book, while integrating real world situations. I love that it stuck formula of its predecessor, a good idea and not to turn off old audiences.

Can’t say enough about Tony Stark, the role reprised by Robert Downy Jr. He was born to play this role. Robert played the character of Tony Stark to the letter, with his captivating performance. He’s great to watch. Tony is a technological genius and the creator of the Iron Man suite and CEO of Stark Industries. Tony is arrogant, flashy, and over the top, only to hide is softer and more endearing qualities. His on screen connection with his co-stars is believable. Whether, he’s getting beat up, kissing, cracking a joke or shooting the bad guys, you can’t deny his acting chops. Robert got has the stuff!

The sequel to Iron Man to loosely based on the comic from Marvel. With any comic book movie, there is a wide array of support characters and villains to keep it fresh. In Iron Man 2, while keeping the core of the cast from Iron Man, we are introduced to Nick Furry (Samuel L. Jackson), Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell), Ivan Vanko/Whiplash (Mickey Rourke), Natalie Rushman / Natasha Romanoff (Scarlet Johansson) Howard Stark (John Slattery) Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) and a few others. The mix of characters makes the Iron Man plot more interesting. I was pleased in the manner of introduction. As you are watching, you are unsure who is there to help or hurt Tony/Iron Man. On screen, the support casts don’t trust each other. This causes internal conflict and limited trust among the trusted. Tony might as well paint a bullseye on his back. Everyone wants him something, whether it is that genius brain or the weapon, Iron Man.

In the squeal, you get a great character development from the previous roles reprised and throughout the movie from new roles. There was some blending of new characters, typical for a comic book movie, however the true diehard fans are in for a treat. This movie is a must see on big screen and viewing a few times. You might miss something the first go round. Thank goodness for technology, comic books are here to stay on the big screen!
