Iron Man 2, Is it a Home Run By Jon Favreau

Whoever said action movies need only action and no well-developed character personas, never saw Jon Favreau direction with “Iron Man 2”. This is truly a movie sequel worth seeing.

Based on the Marvel comic books by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, Jack Kirby and Don Heck, Just Theroux bring the character Iron Man to life, which surpasses Superman and Spiderman with its successful directing and amazing three dimensional character development.

With double the villains as the first “Iron Man”, the sequel far surpasses the first movie, an aspiration many sequels fail to accomplish.

Tony Spark, aka Robert Downey Jr., mingles well with Gwyneth Paltrow as well as Scarlett Johansson. Johansson is hired as Tony Spark’s new assistant, and Paltrow is hired as the new CEO of Stark Industries. These two powerful women show that women can in face run the world, as well as Spark’s heart.

Just as the previous Iron Man, director Jon Favreau increases the number of explosions. This action packed sequel also calls into the picture the use of another Iron Man, played by Don Cheadle.

Battle scenes exist between iron man and the villains, as well as the other iron man, Don Cheadle. Perhaps the scene with Don Cheadle could have been omitted. Downey Jr. attempts to fight Cheadle while at his party, and intoxicated. Perhaps it is a cry for help, for without his suit he would lose his life. Perhaps it is just in Spark’s nature to get a little crazy when he is partying. Or perhaps he is lost in reality, he is not as fit as he was before, and if it weren’t for his suit, he would be less powerful. Maybe he is proving to Cheadle and Congress that the city needs him and his suit, especially in times of hate and destruction. But even in his small moments of defeat, Tony Spark’s energy and personality makes him one of the best Marvel super heroes.

Nothing can beat the vibrant sarcasm of Tony Spark in this film, which ultimately makes the film. He fits to remain iron man, for Congress attempts to get him to turn over his suit. Justin Hammer, villain, does everything he can in an attempt to replicate his suit. But iron man appears to have its disadvantages in this film; the device that resides in Stark’s chest is what is keeping him alive.

Another villain, Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke), who with little words, is portrayed as one of the most mysterious, crazy, and heart wrenching villains going after Tony Spark. With good direction by Favreau, the constant changes in plots remain easy to follow. Spark’s sarcasm, yet motivated nature comes alive in this film as Tony Spark, and not as iron man, for there is a lot of face time where Downey Jr. spends time outside of the iron man costume.

This movie sequel definitely left the movie viewer satisfied, with its vibrant action, ongoing story plot, and sexual tension between Downey Jr. and his love interests, keeping the attention of both men and women
