Iron Man 2 The Battle
Iron Man 2 Is directed by Jon Favreau, and written by Justin Theroux, Stan Lee, Don Heck, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby. It takes place between New York, Queens, Moscow, and Malibu. And of course, being Iron Man 2, it has a star-studded cast.
Being Iron Man has taken its toll on Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr), between the government hounding him for the Iron Man Suit and its ownership rights, and his body getting damaged from wearing the suit to protect the nation. Senator Stern (Garry Shandling) subpoenas Tony to court to tell him that the Iron Man suit is a weapon, and should be handed over to the army, but Stark refuses, saying that he is all the protection that the world needs. Stark wins the battle at the time, but has to hide his face later on, after making himself infamous.
Not only does Stark have to worry about the Senator trying to take his suit away, now there is another suit created by one Anton Venkov (Mickey Roarke). Venkov is out for revenge on his father’s behalf, Anton (Yevgeni Lazarev), who Howard Stark (John Slattery) had worked with. Howard stole the blueprint for the arc reactor design used to power the suit from Anton, like the many people he stole from and murdered before stealing the blueprint. James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) takes one of Stark’s suits after a fight due to Tony’s excessive drinking and displaying erratic behavior. He turns the suit over to the army, and is promoted to Lt. Colonel Rhodes.
Tony is having a difficult time trying to rewrite his family’s name with his entire life falling apart around him; drinking eighty ounces of coffee a day to counter the effects of the blood toxicity levels, and making dumbfounding public appearances after heavily drinking. With the world beginning to doubt him, he signs his company over to Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). Unfortunately, not even trusty Miss Potts can foresee everything, because Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell) sneaks Ivan out of jail after the Grand Prix escapade. Hammer is enlightened by Ivan’s electric bullwhip half-suit, and wants him to make more suits. Roarke, however, just wants to get revenge on Tony Stark, and creates part of a drone militia, which the army helps with.
While unveiling the new drones and Rhodes’ suit at Stark Expo in New York, Justin is horrified to see Rhodes and the Droids being controlled by Ivan, still at Hammer Industries, to attack Iron Man. After Detective Natasha Romanov, once Natalie Rushman, (Scarlett Johannson) breaks into and defeats the compromised system, Rhodes and Tony defeat the military Droids and Venkov together. Stark made a better element with which to power the suits, and becomes once again respected, leaving his mind free to worry about the important things, like asking Pepper Potts to marry him.
This movie was just as good as the first one to me, with clever dialogue, and a to-die-for cast. “That’s how dad did it, that’s how I do it, and it’s worked so far.” Well, Tony Stark, I think it will work far into the future, too; this movie is a great one.
