In order to get recognized by the National Football League (nfl) you must work hard and have dedication on the college level. Dan LeFevour did just that when he went to Central Michigan University and as a result he put his university on the map for football.
Some of LeFevour accomplishments were that he led the University of Central Michigan to a win in the 2006 Motor City Bowl against Purdue. With his great performance he won the bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP) as a true freshman. In the following year, he was the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week for two straight weeks in October. Dan was the USA Today’s Player of the Week on October 16, 2007. On December 1, 2007 LeFevour became the second player in Division I FBS history to pass for 3,000 yards and rush for more than 1,000 yards in a single season. The first player to accomplishment these goals was Vince Young from Texas. On September 12, 2009 at the University of Michigan State LeFevour passed Byron Leftwich (quarterback now for Pittsburgh in the nfl) to become the MAC all time leader in total offense in his college career.
He was notice on a couple of occasions by the College Football Performance Awards and National Performer of the Week. He was also the Elite National Performer and Elite Quarterback Performer by the College Football Performance Awards for 2009. LeFevour has the Mid-American Conference records for career completions, attempts, passing yards, passing touchdowns, and total touchdowns. Dan is the only player in NCAA history that has more than 2,500 rushing yards. He is second all time in offensive yards.
Because of his hard work, he was pick in the sixth round (181) by the Chicago Bears. He played in three of the preseason games. He threw 32 passes with 15 being completed for 160 yards. He also had one touchdown and one interception added on to his stats. His receivers did not help him when they dropped seven of his passes that hit them right in the numbers. Dan was sacked four times and his quarterback rating for the three games were 59.4. He also ran four times for 33 yards.
Some sports commentators feel that he needs to work on some things in order to successful in the National Football League. They believed that he needs to work on his accuracy throwing the ball down the field. This will come with time and working on his arm strength with trainers and doing other techniques with the coaching staff. He also needs to work on his footwork in the pocket, which will come better with repetition and being in a live game under center.
He is hopeful that one day he will be a starter in the league. If he works on his weaknesses and stay dedicated to the course at hand, he will get his chance. Maybe he will be the next Tom Brady one day. Tom Brady was also picked in the sixth round.
