Is the film “Atlas Shrugged” a perfect example of conservative movie-making?

And is the reason why it bombed at the box office and why nearly all the reviews were negative?

While it is true that the 32 critics (typically liberal leaning) gave Atlas Shrugged a rating of 3/10, it should be noted that the 7,431 audience participants that have rated Atlas Shrugged gave it an average rating of 3.5/5.

Critics 6%, Audience 85%. Interesting differences.

For it’s opening week, the film placed 14th on the box office charts with $2.2 million in receipts – but it appeared in only 299 theaters, the lowest total in the top 15. Atlas Shrugged averaged $7,411 per theater for the week, which was the best per-screen total in the industry outside of Rio’s $14,000.

While it is not exactly a Hollywood blockbuster, with a budget of $10 million dollars and no advertising save word-of -mouth, and constrained by the limited release, I would say that Atlas Shrugged did fairly well in it’s first week.

I have not yet seen it and will not be able to see it until it is released in Canada, but I can’t wait.

I believe that they are also doing a brisk business in ancillary merchandise. There has been great demand for the most expensive product, a replica of the bracelet that Reardon has made from his metal. I have ordered a t-shirt and a mug from their store. I have read Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead numerous times each. Atlas Shrugged is my favorite book.

To all the people that dredge up the fact that Ayn Rand used Social Security …. so what???
She was forced to pay into it so she should get her money back. As far as I am concerned, her objection was to being forced to pay into it in the first place. Should she have just let them take her money for good?
