New York Yankees
The Yankees won the World Series… how cares? Honestly when the Bronx Bombers’ are in out! Ok, Derek Jeter he’s classy. I can’t stand all the fans who are die hard when the Yanks are winning and are whining when they are losing. Too many of these people gage their success based solely on how successful the Yankee’s are. Hey don’t get me wrong I love me some success on the field, the court, or the ice, but when that’s all you care to talk about it has gone too far. When one of the most winningest franchises in sports wins it’s just another notch on their belt. In all fairness a good party after winning a championship is appropriate, no expected and deserved. It is a huge accomplishment. I beg the question, “What did it do for the sport or the community?” Winning and losing can be a great judge of character. I look at what the New Orleans Saints did for their community after defeating the favored Cults. The Saints brought optimism to a struggling city.
As a sports fan I cheer for the underdog. Winning means so much more to a team who is not expected to win. If you look at all the inspiring and motivational stories, many which are true, they are underdogs. If they are not underdogs they experience a defining moment where one must fight through the pain, the suffering, a personal struggle then come off victorious against the foe. Quick examples Remember the Titians, this team developed a brotherhood no one in this country had developed in our country’s history. Playing football was just a means to that greater end of an unbreakable bond. The Rookie is another example of overcoming adversity. An ordinary high school coach supposedly too old to make the major leagues as a pitcher overcomes mockery and self doubt to play it at least one major league game. It didn’t matter that he wasn’t the winning pitcher in game seven of the World Series. That type of success is something we all dream of. Last example, Forever Strong, this is a story of a high school kid who loved rugby and would do anything too win. He gets in trouble with the law and must spend time in a juvenile detention hall. While spending time there he joins a local rugby team. Through developing friendship with his teammates he realizes rugby or sports are not just about winning they are about character. Athletes and fans show their true character not just when they lose but when they win as well.
Okay, back to the Yankee’s, as an organization are no different than any other athletic team, they want to win, with the big exception of money. Over the years the Yanks have proven they can win. They can win with team chemistry and they can also win with just buying up talent and stacking up their team with big names. Watching a team how believed in themselves when no one else did is refreshing, it’s energizing, and it gives motivation to face life’s challenges and experience success, not even money can produce the feelings of triumph over the challenger. In conclusion, congratulations on your World Series championship, it is well deserved. As sports fans we need to use these success stories and apply them to our lives and take life’s challenges head on and conquer obstacles that stand in our way to success!
