Predator series- Review
From the mind of Robert Rodriguez comes the latest installment of the Predator series. In this latest release, we follow a group of mankind’s deadliest killers as they have been abducted and stranded on a strange planet. As it becomes clear that their sole purpose is to act as hunted game for the planet’s inhabitants, these elite warriors from some of the world’s deadliest organizations realize that their only chance at survival stems from their ability to work together in an attempt to kill the very Predators hunting them. Each member brings a unique set of deadly skills to the group to aid in their survival.
Led by ex-military turned mercenary, Royce (Adrien Brody), the group’s survival hinges on their skills as some of the deadliest killers known to man, including C.I.A. Black Ops sniper, Isabelle (Alice Braga), Mexican Drug Cartel enforcer, Cuchillo (Danny Trejo), and Hanzo (Louis Ozawa Changchien), a member of the deadly Yakuza Japanese organized crime syndicate. This ruthless group of killers faces a deadly challenge when they find that they are no longer the Predators, but the prey. Their skills, coupled with the survival knowledge provided by Noland (Laurence Fishburne), the sole survivor of one of the Predators’ earlier hunts, is key for their survival.
Written and produced by Robert Rodriguez, Predators looks to not only thrill audiences with a new installment on the series, complete with the action and suspense that Rodriguez has become known for. Rodriguez also envisioned creating a film that would take the audience back to the beginning of the saga, when we first became introduced to these vicious Predators. Even the landscape of the film appears very similar to the jungle setting in the very first Predator. Rodriguez says he wants the viewer to connect with the film as they did with the original. As the characters develop and evolve on their treacherous navigation of this alien planet, the predators hunting them will also evolve, making them even deadlier.
With an excellent cast, including Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, and Alice Braga, Predators will put a new twist on the classic action-packed series, following each character as they develop individually, and as a unit. Throughout their journey, it is revealed that for each member of the group, there lies a darker truth beneath the surface that begins to explain why each person has been brought to this planet. For every member of the team, there is some story of his or her past life – a dark secret for each of them that reveals in this perilous situation a time of reckoning and redemption. These dark undertones should bring more depth to the characters, giving a new feel to series, including a psychological element that each individual must confront and overcome in order for the group to survive the hunt.
Predators is sure to deliver all of the action and suspense that one has come to expect from the series. This newest installment also looks to build upon the thriller to add more dramatic undertones through the characters’ inner conflicts as they struggle to survive in this dangerous game of predator vs. prey.
