Predators Movie, A Must See!
The new high octane Predators movie is the overdue must-see sequel to the infamous 1987 Predator movie, and it delivers fast-paced sci-fi action from start to finish. Predators is about a group of chosen few, all experts in their field of combat or expertise, that are dropped on a different planet and are hunted like wild game to the death. There’s never a dull moment in this thriller, and it serves up some great movie and television stars too, such as Adrien Brody; Laurence Fishburne; and Topher Grace, of That 70’s Show fame. Predators has all the special effects and horrifying aliens as its 1987 predecessor, but thankfully amplified by the graphics and CGI technology available today. Predator fans are in for a real treat with scarier computer-generated creatures and better invisibility cloaks than the original movie, and a fast-paced plot line that will keep anyone’s adrenaline pumping while seated on the edge of their ominous seat.
The movie’s main protagonist, Royce, played by Adrien Brody of The Piano, is a dark, brooding, mysterious character who doesn’t want to reveal anything about himself, and definitely isn’t looking to come out of this experience with friends. He is all business on this game preserve, and provides some definite plot twists by only looking out for himself, much to the danger and chagrin of the others. Topher Grace plays the vulnerable doctor, the only one of the chosen bunch without any combat experience. Grace’s character provides some unexpected laughs in this obscure film as well. When the hunted prey encounter Laurence Fishburne’s wacky character, they realize just what surviving on this alien planet for any length of time will do to you mentally. Fishburne’s character is clearly mentally unstable, but he enlightens the hunted with some great insight into how to successfully hide from and kill the aliens. I was also delighted to see Danny Trejo in this movie in his pre-Machete days, which I hadn’t expected. Trejo convincingly plays a Mexican drug-cartel enforcer and all around badass. There is of course the token female character, played by Alice Braga of I Am Legend fame, who helps to bring some humanity and often times the voice of reason to the stressed survivors. Walton Goggins from The Shield plays an insanely immoral prisoner on death row, which helps to provide balance on the crazy end of this awesome spectrum of warriors. Overall, the cast was well-chosen and there are many great performances from its actors.
The movie opens with the unfortunate group of human prey being dropped from the sky onto the alien planet, and they then proceed to try and figure out just how they got there and why they were chosen. They realize quickly that in order to survive, they must stick together. If you like extreme blood and gore, as well as commando style fighting and thrilling action, this movie is a must for you. Nimród Antal and Robert Rodriguez spared no expense when directing and producing this film, respectively, and even threw in a few throwbacks to the original Predators movie, to the delight of the long-awaiting original 1987 movie fans. Predators is definitely a redemption for the fans that weren’t thrilled with the disappointing sequels to the original Predator movie. Who, if any, will survive this tragic bloodbath on the deadly intergalactic game preserve? Watch with nail-biting, heart-pumping delight and find out!
