Prepare Yourself For Killer Suspense-Predators

Prepare yourself for killer suspense. This trailer gives an eerie and thrilling insight to the film Predators, an continuation in the series from the original 1987 film Predator. Presented by Robert Rodriguez, the director of the sexy action film Machete (2010), we are sure to be in for an action-packed ride.

A beautiful cross-fade from the stars into the treetops sets us into the wild jungle location. The tranquility vanishes as a man falls through the trees.

We are introduced to a group of trained professional killers; ruthless, highly skilled and seemingly invulnerable. They share with each other who they are, how they came to be at this place, and why they are here over scenes of what is to come. In any other circumstance, this group would be deadly. But here, they won’t be matched against their own kind. The odds will be against them in this unknown land of terror as the hunters become the hunted.

We see shots of stunning cinematography, juxtaposed with darkness as the scenes flicker past. The gripping storyline is adequately explained through separate lines of each character’s conversations. The special effects shown are realistically haunting and we see images of the obstacles to overcome, the struggle, the characters trying to understand where they are and what is before them.

A loud noise startles the viewer as the realization hits that they are under attack. Other than this and some other soft sounds, the overwhelming silence gives this trailer great intensity. The soundtrack draws you into the alien environment and builds the tension.

A man stands in the dark, red sniper targets appearing all over his body. His face fills with fear and the hope drains away. Out numbered, over powered, completely out of his depth.

Despite all of their expert weaponry, training and discipline, there just doesn’t seem to be a way out. Shots tumble together of the group crawling through the earth, discovering tunnels, broken up by a red flashing light signaling the danger faced. We see a woman caught as she steps into a trap and is strung up in the trees by a primitive rope net.

The trailer is interspersed with explanatory headings and we learn these people are in another world. The headings bring home the true nature of this film, that “Fear will be reborn” We learn the enemy is non-human, and an old friend of ours from years ago, although this is indicated by the title, it is an engagingly familiar experience when the silhouette of a Predator emerges through the smoke. A shot of their heat seeking vision reminds us of the primitive nature of these beasts.

This trailer is expertly put together. Concise, coherent and most of all: dramatic. There is just enough information for the viewer to get their hooks into the plot, and enough suspense to keep everyone guessing at the outcome. It is unpredictable, edgy and invites you to sample a taste of the bloodbath ahead. Explosions and stunts are key to the powerful effect this trailer has on its audience. We are left wondering if our warriors will escape, find a way to outsmart their killers and return home. We know already that this is extremely unlikely, but can’t wait to see it happening before our eyes.
