Review of Legend of Zelda movie

As a mid to late 20′s individual, full of angst and who is constantly walking the tightrope between being professional and obscene – I must say that the previews for the new Legend of Zelda unearthed the inner nerd, which i am CONSTANTLY trying to suppress, made it rise like the Phoenix and gave a bellowing shriek from the highest available mountain….which had to be substituted for my second floor apartment balcony. Either way – this preview, like in all movies- is a sales pitches. They show the most enticing and intriguing facets of the movie in hope you will pay too too much to go see it. However, with this in mind – the first thing that came to me is in this CGI laden age we are living in,with the current state of cinema- the question is not “can this be done?” but rather “can this be done WELL???” I just so happen identify myself at the epicenter of the demographic IGN is trying to reach. I am WILDLY familiar and experienced with the game and the story of Zelda. From its humble NES roots to its awkward teenage 2D experimenting of “the adventure of link”, to the maddening Nintendo 64 complexity and alllllllllll the way to the current state of the (twilight princess) art. Once again, as a man who constantly wrestling with the roots of my nerdom- skepticism – was my first reaction. Will it be true to the story?? will we experience a NEW story? Being that we say the firey red locks of Gannondorf – tells me they are attempting to tell the story right from the beginning- which I like. But even after those concerns…I ask myself… will the writing and acting make it believable and attention grabbing?? the existence of this game and story has always been one to be eventually subjected to translation onto the silver screen, especially in the videogame/comicbook/graphic novel era current movie goers cant get enough of (myself included). But can it be done WELL???? Lord of the rings has proven that over-the-top fantasy projects can be done and WELL received – BUT…the truth of the matter is that the odds are HEAVILY favored in the Super Mario bros.(Bob Hoskins/John Leguizamo) area. This could very well be merely another substance-less visual spectacle paying multimillion dollar tributes to the current state of incredible visuals designed to take viewers attention away from how horrible the movie actually is. As much as I am a fan of the series and story- I am a bigger fan of film- and not one to get lost in special effects to take away from the actual MEAT of the film. Either way -the bottom-line (which is all everything in the world is all about anyway) – the sales pitch got me. And regardless of my heavy skepticism : will pay to watch…pray for the best.
