Scream 4’s a Scream!
Scream 4’s a Scream!

I am generally not a fan of sequels, but I must say “Scream 4” surprised me. Generally by the 3rd sequel movies become redundant… by the 4th they simply are outlandish, “Scream 4” was neither. “Scream 4” managed to be both witty and filled with new twists and turns while staying true to the plot and style of the original Scream trilogy.
“Scream 4” opened on Friday April 15, 2011 featuring several of the original cast members such as Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette. The movie also added some new faces to the cast list including Emma Roberts and Hayden Panettiere. The regrouping of some of the original cast added a sense of nostalgia to the movie, while the new faces added a modern twist.
Director Wes Craven managed to bring the Scream saga to a new, younger generation and was able to overcome the predictability stigma of sequels. He did in fact keep you guessing as to who the culprits were, as well as their motives. Several instances in the movie did startle the audience enough to cause us to jump from our seats. Also, the chilling murder scenes captured the madness of the killers well, making the reinvention of Ghostface a successful and an even more insane one.
The movie was complemented well by the performance of Neve Campbell, who once again graces the screen as Sidney Prescott. She made her role and the pain associated with the character’s tribulations very real. In turn she was balanced nicely by costar Emma Roberts, who played Prescott’s Cousin Jill.
Overall, the movie I feel was a success. It took a humorous approach to the fact that it was the 4th movie in the Scream series but also managed to make a lasting impression. Whether this is your first time experiencing one of the Scream movies or you are a long time fan watching to reminisce, this movie will not let you down. It’s unique ability to stand on its own as well as complement the originals made this movie going experience a very memorable and a highly entertaining one!
