The Dark Knight Rises Shooting Begins May 6th 2011 in India
May 6th, 2011 I love you and I loathe you. Christopher Nolan is at it again as The Dark Knight Rises (TDKR) has been confirmed by The Times of India, to start filming on May 6th of this year. It’s a bitter sweet moment as I paruse information regarding the third Batman movie, because although I absolutely adore Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, basically anything and everything about this newest take on Gotham’s caped crusader, it will be the last one Nolan will direct.
Christopher Nolan took a visit back in December to do some scouting on his own in, Jodhpur, India and stumbled across the Mehrangarh Fort. Although permissions had been asked to block off the entire month of May for shooting the film in this location, it is looking like the crew will only be there for two days at max. Usually it is advised to a lot yourself extra time in case the weather is not right or something happens, therefore this explains the month long request that was submitted.
However with only Christian Bale and a small unit of around 15 people to accompany him, Nolan must not be doing anything drastic. Right? No one knows that is the greatest thing about this movie. Nolan has managed to keep the plot exclusive to himself and his star Christian Bale, although rumors fly that Nolan is looking to wrap up what he started in Batman Begins with Bruce Wayne’s transformation into Batman. What happened to Bruce Wayne while he was in the prisons in the Far East after he was arrested for stealing? We know what occurred when he came back and became Batman. One of the last scenes in ‘The Dark Knight’ was between Batman and Commissioner Gordon, where Batman told Gordon that he was whatever Gotham needed him to be. Bruce Wayne knows how to be good, but where did he learn of the other side, of poverty, punishment, struggle?
Other locations Nolan has sought permission for shooting The Dark Knight Rises include Pittsburgh for 4-6 weeks, London and my personal favorite New York City (NYC). I am thoroughly excited to see that along with Bale, Morgan Freeman will be returning as Lucius Fox, the man behind the design and engineering of everything Batman for Bruce Wayne. Sir Michael Caine will also be back as Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler who has been with him for his entire life. Both Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) and The Mayor of Gotham City will rejoin the cast along with new additions such as Anne Hathaway in her cat burglar debut as love interest Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman.
Scheduled to open July 20th, 2012 Christopher Nolan has no problem keeping everything hidden in his sleeves as he prepares the third and final installment of the most amazing series I have ever seen. It will be hard to top ‘The Dark Knight’ after Heath Ledger’s ‘Joker’ performance, however I am sure that ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ will not disappoint I am going to think of it as Nolan has no shoes too fill, just another pair to design because Christian Bale wore the last two pairs so well.
