The Lord of the Rings

The Lord of the Rings epic series is a beloved classic that has entertained millions for over 70 years. In addition, The Hunt for Gollum aspires to continue the excitement and imagination that produced the iconic trilogy. The question is can you produce a movie that satisfy the rapacious and insatiable appetite of the legion of LORT fans?
The Lord of the Rings trilogy depicts the events that occur decades after the adventures of The Hobbit. Frodo, a Hobbit of the chimera land known as the Shire, inherits a sinister and magical ring from his uncle, Bilbo Baggins. Frodo challenges all his fears and ventures out on a journey to return the ring to Mt. Doom, where the ring’s destruction is feasible and concomitantly the world will be saved from complete domination by the evil forces of the world. The ring is not simply a band of gold, but a ring that represents and instigates the evil nature of humanity. The unspeakable evil nature of humankind has been latent for centuries until… the ring was found or as some say made itself known again.
Frodo does not have the capacity or bravery to accomplish this mission on his own so he decides to enlist his three friends to assist him in taking the ring to Mt. Doom. The friends encounter a multitude of dangerous obstacles, tragedies, and amazing heart-warming triumphs. Our gang of heroes contend with dark and nefarious enemies such as the evil wizard Saruman, the grotesque orcs, and the duplicitous and treacherous Gollum. Frodo also finds assistance in a band of inconceivable heroes that range from a messiah-like wizard named Gandalf, Aragon a highly skilled human warrior, a sophisticated elf, and an irascible dwarf that has a striking resemblance in character and appearance to Yosemite Sam.
Originally known as Sméagol, Gollum’s life drastically changed due to the possession of the one ring, which eventually enslaves him to its powers. The ring’s evil influence and power engulfed the former hobbit to the point that he irrationally and with no concern about the dangers of the ring’s power. The power of the ring created a split personality that reminds us of the good and bad angels on our shoulders. The benevolent personality of Smeagol is appears scarcely and in a tenuous manner. The Gollum personality is full of Dionysian lust for power and no concern for how it was achieved.
Lord of the Rings purists will be excited to see more adventures featuring their favorite characters. The Hunt for Gollum is studded with action, the fights are well choreographed, and the magic effects are stellar. The consistency and integrity of the trilogies storyline is continued beautifully in The Hunt for Gollum. The movie will probably be too violent for most women, but the violence will appeal to most men. The movie is not conducive for children younger than 13 not only due to its violence but also because there are a multitude of very scary characters.
Overall, I found the film enjoyable and it did not disappoint. I do believe that less screen-time spent on backgrounds, sets and surroundings and a more time spent on dialogue, the development of characters, and more in-depth discussion of the legend of the ring. Fantasy fans will enjoy this movie and they will feel that the itch for more of Lord of the Rings will be scratched.
