Toy Story 3 Trailer Review

If one were to sit down with any teenager today and ask them for a list of the most influential films they had seen during their childhood, Disney’s Toy Story will almost always make an appearance. The original Toy Story, released in 1995, was a landmark picture for both Disney and Pixar and holds spot number six on the American film Institutes top ten animated films of all time. In recent years however, Disney has fallen into the distasteful habit of making sequels to their classic animations (i.e. Cinderella II: Dreams Come True, and The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea). Most of these sequels were released straight to DVD and were therefore overlooked by many top critics. Never-the-less they managed to rack up their fair share of negative reviews, as they were chastised for being unmotivated vampires created for the sole purpose of sucking every last bit of money out of the pockets of children who worshipped the originals. It is very rare to find a sequel to a Disney animation that is worth the time and effort it takes to watch it. Toy Story, if anything, is quite the opposite of this stereotype. It is one of the only Disney animations that has received consistently near-perfect reviews of it’s sequels, and with good reason. Supported by a voice-over cast of heavy hitters such as Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Don Rickles, the Toy Story films always execute their well-crafted and unique stories with light hearted entertainment and grace, and we should expect no less from the third installment in the series appropriately titled Toy Story 3.
For those unfamiliar with the Toy Story narrative, the film is told from the point-of-view of a group of toys belonging to a young boy named Andy. In Toy Story 3, Andy is all grown up and heading off to college. He reluctantly donates his toys to a daycare center, where at first the toys are certain they will be joyfully played with constantly. When the children arrive however, the toys find themselves abused and treated so poorly, they decide they must devise an escape.
Toy Story 3 is packed with dozens of lovable and unique characters, all of which are sure to win over the hearts of the viewers. Whether it be the old fashioned cowboy Woody (Hanks), the adventurous and heroic astronaut Buzz (Allen), or the cynically comical Mr. Potato Head (Rickles), the characters are sure to provide a consistent evening of entertainment.
While the plot seems childish, Pixar always seems to channel a certain amount of humor towards the adults in the room. This allows the film to be a pleasant experience for both the kids, and the parents that take them to see the film (and pay the ticket for that matter). Pixar, now owned by Disney, is notorious for its ability to produce quality animation, as the company has not created a poorly reviewed film in decades.
Overall, I would recommend this film for anyone despite their age. Children will discover a wonderful and imaginative tale that they will remember for years to come, and adults will discover a subtle humor and inspiration that may just put them in touch with their childhoods once again.
