Video Game Review
Our favorite mental friends are back, in the second installment of the Kane & Lynch Saga. Now The story has switched to Lynch, the one with the serious deep issues, and it is just what this installment needed. On the first Kane & Lynch we where just spectators to how Lynch will go into his own uncontrollable little world, which we happened to be involved in as well. Now controlling Lynch, it gives us a sense of the mind of a psychopathic being, and the mayhem he leaves behind in Shanghai. Kane, the lesser of two evils, joins along side via cooperative mode and brings a sense of at least someone being in control of their actions. For the most part that is.
It feels like a whole new format was done to bring us a polished, better handling game this time around. The controls are much responsive prior to the last installment, and the city feels alive as we run away from the bullet storms. Now the story, being shot as a documentary, feels more realistic, and the consequences as well. The AI is much better and will give you a fight, but expect a few glitches along the ride. At times when your fully submerged in the story, there will be that one, lonely AI, trying to walk through a wall. The selected weapons in your inventory feel all the same, the sounds don’t give you a hard enough punch to satisfy your thirst for mayhem. Now with the ability to throw canisters to your enemies, it actually makes up for the dreary gun sounds. A staple to my scrotum gives a better sound of pain, then any of the guns do.
As you progress through the city, you will find the levels getting a bit easier as you progress. The relationship between Kane & Lynch makes you stay for the ultra violent bromance. The environment is what sells you on the story as you first begin to play Kane & Lynch. I found myself even gasping at times when the game itself would censor a kill shot at a innocent person. The game itself makes you believe in the mayhem surrounding your every step.
The story itself, all i can say without giving any spoilers, is a story we heard countless times before. As you find yourself sometimes guessing correctly whats going to happened next, once again you stay just how Kane and Lynch will crash and burn. At the end of it all, you find yourself being satisfied, and wanting more that the game couldn’t deliver.
The multiplayer leaves you with a sense that you have invested your money well. With two modes to contend with, it leaves you always restarting a new round with your friends. Fragile alliance is back from the last installment, alongside two new modes. Undercover cop is a new take on the game in which you participate in bank heists but when your trying to escape with your team, you actually have to practically back stab them, and prevent them from escaping. Cops and Robbers is just the police vs. the criminals and their prevention of the crime. All with their little flaws, but trust me you will not notice as you grasp your controller with anxiety, thinking which of your friends among you is the rat. All with the option to back stab at any point and take the money for yourself, it is a high stakes game that you will not put down. No matter how much your girlfriend begs you to touch her, like you touch the controller.
