Will The Gamble Pay Off For The Chicago Bears?
I think that the Chicago Bears drafting a quarterback in the 6th round was the incorrect choice. Dan LeFevour has all the tools to be a good player in the nfl. He comes from a small school. There have been a lot of good players that are drafted every year from these smaller schools. These players fly under the radar, If they are truly good? The scouts will have no trouble finding them. They traded for their starter in Jay Cutler in the off season last year. That is a need for them to find a good back-up or for this guy to come in and maybe even push Cutler. You never really know what kind of player you will find in the draft. Many players have been found in the later rounds of the nfl draft. The Bears have been bad in drafting a quarterback in the last 13 years. They don’t seem to be able to develop one.The Bears have drafted many quarterbacks that have been busts, like Cade McNown, Shane Mathews, Will Furor, Peter Tom Willis, and Rick Mirer, Steve
Stenstrom. Just to name a few. They traded for Jay Cutler on April 3,2009. Maybe they were thinking that Mike Martz will be able to take this kid from a Division 3 school quarterback to one that will actually be able to be successful in the nfl.
If you are going to draft a quarterback? Dan LeFevour seem to be one that you might take a chance on? He was played well in college. He has the size that one wants for a quarterback. He is 6’3.5″ 229 lbs. very mobile and has an above average arm. He is a smart quarterback, a student of the game. He was a 3yr starter in the MAC. Mel Kyper and Todd McShay are both draft experts. I really like Mel Kyper and what he says He always seems to be right on the money. These guys seem to disagree with this pick by the Bears. If you have a chance to pick a quarterback that has a winning record like LeFevour, you do it. He seems to be a Chad Pennington type player He knows how to win. So you pick him,and take a chance. Dan LeFevour’s record at Central Michigan was 36-17. If you pick a quarterback in the 6th round. You might as well not even take him. It seems like a wasted pick. The bears have so many other places on their team that needs to be addressed. They are
getting old on the offensive line. They need to look at their center position. They have a really good center right now, but he is getting a little old. I think he has lost a step. I’m not saying that they need to replace him, but they do need to have someone who can step right in. I did like him better when he had that mean streak running through him a few years back. The Bears could address the tackles as well. The one that they drafted a couple of years ago. The guy that had the back issue? How long will that hold up? Anyone who has hurt their back knows that it can happen again at any given time. My philosophy is that you can never draft to many lineman. Weather it be offensive or defensive lineman. Draft as many as you can! You can also look at their linebacker as well. They aren’t getting any younger.
